How to extract selectable text from a PDF

Read text already embedded in supported PDF pages, review the page-by-page result and download plain text for notes, search, analysis or reuse.

1

Add the PDF

Choose a supported PDF that contains selectable or embedded text.

2

Extract page text

Allow the browser to read available text objects from the document pages.

3

Review reading order

Check headings, paragraphs, columns, line breaks and symbols because PDF storage order can differ from visual order.

4

Copy or download

Save the reviewed plain-text result or copy the sections required for another workflow.

PDF to Text FAQ

Select a question to view the answer.

The pages may be scans made only from images, the text may use unsupported encoding, or access restrictions may prevent normal extraction. Use OCR for image-only pages.

Plain text does not preserve exact page design. Columns, tables, positioned labels and visual spacing can require manual reorganization.

A scan normally requires OCR because its visible words are stored as pixels rather than embedded text. Use OCR to Text for that workflow.

PDFs store text in positioned objects, and their internal order does not always match the visual order seen on the page.

No. The source document is read only for extraction and the text result is created separately.

The current PDF to Text workflow is designed to parse supported document content in the browser without a Fylvexa processing backend.
